QA Lead

Key Responsibilities

A. QA Planning and Strategy

Develop and implement comprehensive QA strategies, test plans, test cases, and testing procedures.

Establish testing standards, processes, and best practices across software development projects.

Define testing scope, objectives, resources, timelines, and deliverables based on project requirements.

Ensure adequate test coverage for functional and non-functional requirements.

Review business and technical requirements to identify potential risks, gaps, and test scenarios.

B. Test Management and Execution

Lead and coordinate functional, integration, regression, system, smoke, and user acceptance testing activities.

Oversee test case preparation, execution, defect reporting, tracking, and closure.

Ensure that test results are documented accurately and that defects are prioritised according to severity and business impact.

Coordinate testing activities across multiple projects and releases.

Verify bug fixes and ensure that affected functionalities are properly retested.

Monitor testing progress and provide regular status reports to project stakeholders.

C. Team Leadership and Development

Lead, supervise, and mentor QA engineers and testers.

Allocate testing assignments and manage team workloads to meet project deadlines.

Review test cases, test scripts, defect reports, and other QA deliverables.

Provide technical guidance and support to team members in resolving testing challenges.

Identify training needs and promote continuous learning and improvement within the QA team.

Foster collaboration between QA and software development teams.

D. Automation and Technical Testing

Identify opportunities to automate repetitive and regression testing activities.

Develop, maintain, and improve automated testing frameworks and scripts where applicable.

Collaborate with developers to integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.

Support API testing, database validation, and cross-browser compatibility testing.

Coordinate performance, load, security, and usability testing with relevant technical teams where required.

Evaluate suitable testing tools and technologies to improve testing efficiency and effectiveness.

E. Defect and Risk Management

Establish and maintain effective defect management and tracking processes.

Analyse recurring defects and conduct root cause analysis with development teams.

Identify software quality risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.

Monitor defect trends, defect leakage, test coverage, and release readiness.

Escalate critical defects and quality concerns that may affect system functionality, data integrity, or production stability.

Ensure that significant defects are resolved or formally assessed before release approval.

F. Release and Deployment Support

Assess test completion status and provide quality recommendations for release readiness.

Ensure that testing requirements and acceptance criteria are met before deployment.

Coordinate with development, implementation, and support teams during release preparation.

Support production validation, post-deployment testing, and investigation of reported issues.

Maintain testing documentation, test evidence, defect logs, and release sign-off records.

G. Continuous Improvement and Compliance

Monitor QA performance metrics and recommend improvements to testing processes.

Ensure compliance with internal quality standards, development procedures, and applicable industry requirements.

Promote early defect detection and quality assurance throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, sprint reviews, retrospectives, and project meetings.

For healthcare applications, pay particular attention to patient data integrity, access control, clinical workflows, and system reliability.
